Comic Opera by Otto Nicolai
Conductor
MARTIN BINKS
Producer
SARAH ESTILL
Arguably the greatest of all German comic operas, Otto Nicolai's setting of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor, composed in the last year of his life in 1849, was an instant success at its premier. With its famous and sparkling overture, lively choruses and ensembles, and passionate romantic liaisons, the opera offers something for everyone.
This tuneful opera about Shakespeare's 'fat knight', Sir John Falstaff, will be sung in English.
